Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced today that he will ensure cryptocurrencies can be used for donations to his electoral campaign and that if re-elected, he will ensure that American companies based on this technology no longer have to move overseas by changing the “terrorism” policy on cryptocurrencies that the Biden administration and the SEC are currently implementing.

In several video clips uploaded on X, Trump appeared to tell a group of buyers of his NFTs that he intends to accept cryptocurrency donations. “If you can’t do it, I’ll make sure you can,” Trump said. “Can we donate to the Trump campaign using cryptocurrencies? I believe the answer is yes.”

Trump also told the crowd that President Joe Biden “doesn’t even know” what a cryptocurrency is. “If you like cryptocurrency in any form, and there are many different forms, if you’re in favor of cryptocurrency, you better vote for Trump,” he added.

Trump seems to have made these remarks during a meeting he organized to meet and dine with buyers of his “Mugshot Edition” NFT during his free day from the trial. Those invited to dinner individually purchased more than 47 NFTs, each priced at $99, according to Axios, citing a copy of the dinner invitation.

“We did it when NFTs weren’t trending. We made NFTs trending again,” Trump added.

In response to a question about whether he will keep cryptocurrency companies in the United States, Trump said he will work to keep them in the country. “If cryptocurrencies are leaving the United States because of hostility toward cryptocurrencies… well, we’ll stop that. We don’t want that,” Trump said. “If we want to embrace it, we have to let them be here.”

The “Jeo Boden” memecoin, a humorous Solana-based token based on U.S. President Joe Biden, rose 18.5% in the last 24 hours until 10:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday after Trump’s comment on the token, according to CoinMarketCap data.

“That’s a lot of money for a coin. I don’t like that kind of investment,” Trump said after hearing that the BODEN token had a market capitalization of $240 million.

Avichal Garg, co-founder of Electric Capital, wrote in a post on X that it is “amazing to see the evolution” from Trump on cryptocurrencies. “Whoever is advising him on this issue is doing a great job,” Garg said, adding that if Biden remains opposed to cryptocurrencies, “the downstream consequence is that cryptocurrencies will shift from being Anti-Gensler to being Anti-Biden to being anti-Democratic.”

Currently, Trump is the Republican candidate for the upcoming U.S. presidential elections in November 2024. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for further comments from The Block.
